Pull Up a Swing

If you want to know the best places to hang out and talk, ask a kid. He’ll give you a dead-pan look and say, “C’mon, Mom. The playground at recess! Duh.” And you’ll have to agree, it was a pretty obvious answer. So today we’re gathering at the local playground. Only this one isn’t “old school” like we’re all used to – with the cool swings, the teeter-totter, and the merry-go-round that you’d sit on and your friend would spin so fast that you’d fly off and land ten feet away, covered in sand. No, today, we’re going to one of the new “safe” playgrounds, where the mommies will all give us the stink-eye because none of us have kids with us. So, you know, we MUST have an evil intent. (sorry, my Free Range is showing. pausing to adjust)

So pull up an environmentally-safe, cushioned piece of recycled rubber or a wood chip and have a seat. Join the conversation and tell us what you’re up to. And if you’re mean, we’ll go old school on you and bury you up to your neck in that environmentally sound padding that’s underneath all this ‘equipment’.

Hmm, it’s been a while since I’ve been at a playground without kids, but I used to go to such places since it was nice to walk there. That was before someone decided that such tendencies make me a threat to children. Now I have chaperones, but it’s only a matter of time before someone decides we’re all too old to be anything other than pedophiles.

Anyhoo, I can still enjoy playgrounds a little longer. My kids are little enough that there are still a couple of things that aren’t too babyish for them there. Miss E is finally old enough to officially qualify for the 5-12 section of the playground, but she’s already outgrown most of it intellectually. Sad, huh? Though I still see people swinging kids her size in baby swings . . . .

So . . . not much to report over here, really. It’s been a relatively peaceful weekend. Did the grocery shopping on Friday, so Saturday was more of a laid-back day (by our standards). It was nice to not be hurrying and scurrying for a change. Today was our typical Sunday. The girls are having a ton of fun with their new toys from Miss A’s birthday. They just discovered big-kid legos and are enthralled. Miss E was really upset that I wouldn’t let her keep them within reach when she went to bed. Miss A is more impressed with the scrapbook and make-up kits. Both of them always have a burst of play energy right at bedtime. What’s with that?

I have a bunch of work to get out tonight, so here’s hoping the coffee sustains me.

This week I have a bunch of stuff to do, but supposedly the partners are going to be out of town from Wednesday through Friday. That always sounds like three days of relative freedom, but somehow it never works out that way, so we’ll see. Tomorrow I’m meeting an old friend for dinner (with my kids), so hopefully that will be fun. Can’t think of much else coming up this week.

I hope everyone has a nice week!

This past weekend I took my daughter & another scout to horse camp and they had a blast. As did I watching them. This week I get to go for part 1 of my Outdoor Training for scouts. It’ll be interesting to see what I have been doing wrong! Other than that not much is going on this week.

I “only” have a Den Meeting to plan for this week! Oh, and we have an overnighter on Friday evening. I’m hoping that Josh continues to be excited about it – it’s about time that he learns to sleep away from home without me. I was so excited about this weekend… Steve was supposed to go on a retreat, and with Josh at the overnighter, well, I was going to have a whole evening and night ALONE!!! All by myself!!! But, alas, Steve’s retreat was cancelled. So all my plans have been dashed. doggonnit.

Anyway, Den Meeting tomorrow night – I’m in charge again because the lying, stinking liar is no longer the Den Leader, and nobody has stepped up yet to take over. And tomorrow night is also our Popcorn Turn-in, with the rest of the pack turning their orders and money in during the rest of the week, so I’m going to be a busy girl with bookkeeping and money for the next couple of weeks. Such fun.

Don’t think much else is happening… Oh!! Remember that nasty pic of Josh’s room? I finally finished Phase 1 and got it mostly cleaned up. I’ll try and remember to put up pics and an update.

I’m a little sad but at the same time, a little relieved. Our last 2 baseball games were Sunday. Baseball consumed 4 days a week (practice) plus Sundays, so it literally took 4 evenings away completely, and every Sunday. I am happy to get that back, but will miss seeing those boys (and their parents) so often.

This is a short school/work week for us! 🙂 YAY!!! Bailey only has school today and tomorrow, and I have Thursday and Friday off! We’ll be taking off for up north Friday morning. I cannot wait! I HOPE we have decent weather. We can manage the cold, but please don’t rain!!!!

    Have a good Monday, everyone!

I swear I’m losing my mind! I wrote a nice long response and closed the page accidentally!!! There’s a lot going on this morning but nothing I can get into right now.

I spent 15 years of my life walking the playgrounds of Minnetonka schools. I loved my job and was so lucky to land it.

I’m just getting ready to go to Vicki’s for our “last chance workout.” I’m kind of looking forward to the weigh in tonight. We’re half way through and will get measured tonight as well. I’m hoping to see good results. I’m thisclose to saying bye, bye, bye to size 14 jeans.

    Have a good Monday all.
