  1. Jason says:

I would have to say somewhere in the range of 14-16 hours.

  2. Joy says:

I’ve never been on a cruise ship or a really big boat but we used to go down the Mississippi and St. Croix every weekend when we were young. So, a day.

  3. Jenny says:

ugh I don’t like boats…so probably less than 2 hrs.

  4. SKL says:

I took a three-day river cruise when I was in China. That was nice.

The question was inspired by the fact that we’ve booked a week-long Caribbean cruise for New Year’s.

  5. mssc54 says:

Oh I definitely have this one. I was in an A7 squadron in the Navy. Made three cruises on the JFK. Does that count? 9 , 11 & 13 months. The longest “at sea” period was 69 out of 72 days. That was after the USS BELKNAP collided with us. Google USS BELKNAP. It was very, very bad.

    • Laura says:

Holy Guacamole! That was some fire! Were you on board the JFK when the collision happened?

      • mssc54 says:

Yes. I was the night-check supervisor in our squadrons admin office. My office was two frames inboard from where the commission was. One guy on the JFK was killed that night. He worked in our sister squadron… right across the passageway (hall) from my office. He had two weeks left on his four year enlistment. 😦

Lots went on that night. I could go on but I’m already hijacking this thread.

  6. Laura says:

Four or five hours, I believe. A couple of years ago, I went to Alaska, and my friend and I went on a sightseeing cruise out of Seward. The seas were high that day, HUGE waves. A lot of people were NOT happy. Fortunately, I have an iron stomach. I had a wonderful time.

  7. Just a Mom says:

Probably about 12 or 13 hours out fishing.

    • Laura says:

oh, geez. I forgot about our marathon fishing sessions. Probably blocked them out. I’ve done the mega-fishing days, too. Probably closer to 8-10 hours.

  8. Sue says:

We’ve spent a day out on the boat before. I haven’t been on a cruise ship either and have no desire to!

  9. Nikki says:

A full day out fishing. I don’t know how many hours. I’ve never been on a cruise, and never will!

  10. SKL says:

Just out of curiosity, why would you all never go on a cruise? I’ve been on a bunch of one-day cruises plus the 3-day one, and I’ve never had a problem. It’s one of the most relaxing ways to travel, in my opinion.

My mom did have a friend who had a bad experience with motion sickness on a cruise – but then, she couldn’t even ride the tamest rides at amusement parks without puking.

    • Joy says:

I’m too claustrophobic to go on a cruise for any length of time. I have a hard time on a car ferry. I could go on a “day” cruise but that would be it.

    • Joy says:

I should also mention that I won’t fly either.

      • Nikki says:

After last time, I don’t think I’ll ever fly again either. I haven’t told my Cali family that though! I don’t know if I’ll ever go back. It would take something very serious for me to go.

    • Nikki says:

Because they’re too big, and I have no control over it. I would feel stuck, and that freaks me out. Plus, I am not a fan of open water, as in NO land in sight. No thank you!

    • Sue says:

For me, part of it is my fear of drowning and part of it is being in some horrific accident. Like Titanic or Poesidon. Actually, it was after watching Poesidon that I decided I’d never go on a cruise! LOL!

  11. Karen Joy says:

Maybe a few hours. That was along time ago and I was sick the whole time.I am one of those who gets sick on the tamest of rides.Car sick alot.So I will never step foot on any boat again.
