Pull Up a Seat

I’ve decided that when I win the Lottery and have more money than I know what to do with, I’m going to put a home theatre in the basement of my house. Yeah, it’s an unnecessary extravagance, but it’s also a useful one. I like TV, I like video games, how cool would it be to have a room where you can watch/do that stuff in surround? So I figured, since I haven’t won the lottery yet (dang), I’d create it here in our corner of the web and try it out. So pull up a comfy seat, we’ll get you some soda and popcorn, and tell us what you’re doing this week, and what your favorite movie is, so we can queue it up…

And if you’re mean (and we seem to have attracted a few meanies in the past few months), we’ll tie you to that chair and peg you with unpopped kernels. And then make you clean up the mess.

We have a quasi theatre room. 106″ screen with surround sound. Wii is hooked up to it too. Saves money as we can watch a movie in home instead of spending $100 on a typical outing.

    • Joy says:

That’s awesome Joseph. I’d love to play the Wii on something like that. Going out to a movie is such a rip off.

      • Sue says:

Going to the movies has gotten completely ridiculous!

      • Laura says:

I am SO very lucky to be living where I am. Our little town has a two-screen theatre, and admission all the time is $6. Concessions are very reasonable, too, so it’s really no hardship for us to go. And Josh isn’t really into the “theatre” experience yet… he still gets very scared by a lot of movies, so we don’t do them much. I tend to go either by myself, or with a friend. Going to the Big City is ridiculous, I agree, though.

But how cool would it be to just be able to go downstairs and kick back. You could have movie parties… it’d be awesome.

Please publish your address, complete with zip code for our GPS! 😉

We only got the theatre system as a treat when we sold our house 2 years ago…for almost double what we paid 3 years earlier. It’s great. The games are great on there too. So much more fun. Now they’re coming out with a 3D TV followed by 3D projector that doesn’t need glasses. Might have to upgrade! LOL!!
Going out is way too expensive. Plus to arrange someone to babysit, means we rarely get out on a date. But by the time you add tickets and a snack you are easily at $50. Plus you usually go to supper. Plus the fuel to drive to the city. It all adds up.
Never mind that all I hear in the theatre is everyone ruminating on their popcorn like a herd of buffalo with dentures. Or stupid texting on cellphones during the movie. Or kids kicking their feet against the seat like a 3 yr old who has to pee. Just my curmudgeon view on theatre going. LOL!

    • Laura says:

Be a curmudgeon!! We like curmudgeons here! My curmudgeonly attitude applies to 3D. It ticks me off that EVERYTHING now is coming out in 3D. I never liked it to begin with, and I was seriously disappointed with HP7 (being the massive Potterhead that I am), because watching it in 2D, you could tell that they sacrificed some things so they could really play up the 3D aspect of it. annoying.

    • Joy says:

“ruminating on their popcorn like a herd of buffalo with dentures”!! LOL!!! I agree with you “curmudgeon” views on going to the theater. I hate the smells, germs and cramped quarters.

      • Karen Joy says:

Herd of buffalo with dentures?Oh Joe!!You have such a way with words!LOL!True that though.

        • Joseph says:

Well,it may be colourful, but it’s the best and most accurate description! LOL!! It’s one of those things that the more you try to ignore, the more you notice. So the first 20 minutes of a movie is a write off, as I don’t hear the movie. rather the masses gorging their faces consumes all my attention.

The kids have conferences today! It’s also the book fair and Wednesday is test drive a car day to raise $$$ for school. Yeah! For every person who test drives a car from the local dealer, they donate $10 to our PIE group. It’s completely no pressure, just a way to raise some money. Friday is Grandparents Day at 1:30pm which is always a HUGE turnout. Basketball has started for Trin so our weeks will be pretty busy from here until March! It’s also my last week at my current job. I have been there 8 years and they have taught me everything I know so it’s bittersweet. I will miss most of the people 😉 I start my new job right away next Monday and am excited but scared to death! To go from knowing everything (almost!) to not even knowing where the bathroom is, is kinda scary! I know I know, it will be fine, but that doesn’t make it any better! I’ll be crying in my soup come Friday and then swearing at all the drivers I’ll have to deal with come Monday. Can’t wait 🙂

My week… I still don’t know. Geez. Baby cat, who, it seems is going to be called Hobbes, is still nursing, although I’m trying to wean him to bowl, and then to food. Pack Meeting Tuesday night, thought i had it all planned, then the committee says, “Oh, this week is Vet’s Day. We should do something to commemorate that.” Crud. Rearrange EVERYTHING… I was nominated tonight to take over as Cubmaster in January after our current CM leaves, but if I take that, then we’re left without a Wolf Leader again…

On the School Front, I have a grant to research and another to write a follow-up report on, and have that submitted before we leave for Thanksgiving (at least, that’s the goal), and get letters out to hotels in Dallas/Ft. Worth to see if I can arrange for a weekend getaway package to auction off this Spring.

My mom’s birthday is this week, so I need to go shopping, and I should probably clean the house, since I have a wall that I literally cannot find for all the Goodwill stuff piled against it…

Fun times, lemme tell ya. Sheesh. This stuff is too overwhelming. I’m going to Pinterest, instead.

  5. SKL says:

Well, a home theater would be wasted on me. We do have a bose “surround sound” system where basically we are supposed to place some of the speakers around the room. They are all on one wall, though. I don’t know how big our TV screen is. It’s not small, but not huge either. We used to use it more, but nowadays nobody really has time to watch TV. The last paid movie I saw was Slumdog Millionaire, probably 3 years ago. But, we do watch selected DVDs. A couple of weeks ago, I borrowed Oklahoma from the library since the kids have wanted to see it. We still haven’t had a chance to watch it.

This weekend we had a blast at Great Wolf Lodge. The girls were able to go on almost everything, and they did. They were so brave. Last year we were pretty much restricted to the tot stuff because Miss A was such a runt. As for me, this was my first experience with water slides. Some of them were quite intense. (Or am I just getting old for this stuff?) My sister also found an old bathing suit so she could join in the fun. She had a great time. I was so glad. I also got to spend a little quality time with some other adoptive parents. And I did zero work. The only thing I’m not thrilled about is how much bad stuff I ate.

I went to visit my brother at the hospital on Friday. He’s been there a week, and they don’t know what’s wrong with him. I wonder if it’s because the hospital is so crappy. I did hear that he was finally going to go home – not sure if today or tomorrow – but I don’t know any further details.

So our foreign house guests showed up tonight (right before I got home) and they will be here for about a week. Not sure how that is going to impact our life. I don’t plan on disrupting my kids’ lessons and such. This time of year, it’s hard enough to have any continuity.

This week, I don’t think we have anything really exciting planned. Just trying to catch up with work and dealing with these strangers. Next week will be more busy, so the more I get done now, the better.

I hope everyone has a great week!

  6. Nikki says:

I was so not ready for the weekend to be over. It was one of the nicest, relaxing yet productive weekends we’ve had in a very long time.

Saturday, we raked up all the leaves. Actually, Bailey did most of it, he’s working some stuff off. The boys pulled out at the very least 20 balls from the woods! We got the entire outside of the house cleaned up and ready for snow to fall. Not that I am encouraging it, but we’re ready! Then Saturday evening, we relaxed and watched caught up on our TV. We had 3 Amazing Races to watch! Sunday, again, we didn’t do much of anything but relax and get the house cleaned up. We watched some football. I found myself cheering (loudly too) for the Packers! They played great!

This week…I got nothing! 🙂 Have a good week, everyone.

Which Lottery are going to win Laura? Get a bigger basement, don’t remodle the one you have! Lol

Not too sure what I’m doing this week. Although we just signed up our seven year old son for wrestleing and our nine year old daughter for basiketball at the recreation department. So I’m sure practice will begin this week.

Our oldest daughter will get her van from the body shop this week so I will be on stand by to drive her if necessary. What a crazy situation this has been! 😦

I may try to get out in the woods for some alone time and hopefully shoot something big and brown with horns.

I was planning to win the recent $245m Iowa Powerball, but, alas, I didn’t get a SINGLE blippin’ number. shoulda kept my buck. I coulda at least got me a candy bar.
