Things are either right or wrong. Black OR white.

You making fun of my hair again?

I have to admit I’m a mixture of black/white and gray. Basically there are some things I believe have one right answer for everyone (and I know the answer), but there are other things where the right answer depends on the circumstances. Rather than give “the” answer, I would describe the principles by which I would determine the answer. And on some things, I am just not willing to take a stand at this time in my life. I reserve the right to limit my outrage and drama to preserve my energy for my kids and my health.

For those who believe they are black/white, do you ever deviate in your own actions and if so, how do you move past that? I mean, I’ve done a few things I’m not proud of, and while I will never say they were “right,” they make me a bit humble to condemn everyone else who is guilty of them.

Grey. A lot. And it sometimes makes me a little crazy.

That does not mean that I *don’t* see things in Black and White, as well… some things, to me, are that simple. But I can also see grey in some of those black and white situations.

For example. Stealing is wrong. black and white. No question. You do not steal. Now I’m in a store, and a guy comes in to rob it. I can defend myself, but only if I steal a knife from the store’s display. But stealing is wrong, right? Don’t care. I’ll save myself first, and then argue with you over the semantics of whether it was “right” for me to steal that knife to do so. (and I know it’s not the greatest example, but I didn’t want to open the hot-button cans of worms – religion, abortion, gay marriage, etc.)

  5. Joseph says:

    Absolutely black and white. LOL!

I may see some things in grey at a particular moment, or for my whole life, I (my own view/opinion, etc) may be wrong (quite often) at times, but underneath everything remains a constant black and white.

    Black $ White…..

    apparently Im a “bubble burster”…..

But to me, it either is or it isnt!!

  7. Joy says:

I don’t know how to think in black and white. My whole world is gray. I have to think of every given situation before I can sum anything up and then it just bleeds from black and white to gray.

  8. Jenny says:

    probably both

  9. SKL says:

I sense a trend, so far. The extra genes in the XX chromosome appear to create a bit of equivocation. Not that this is a new observation.

  10. Nikki says:

Mostly, gray. Some things I see in black and white, but not too many. In my opinion, if you always see things in black and white, you aren’t very open minded.
