I got Paul 3 really nice pairs of “Life Is Good” lounge pants for his birthday. He needed new ones in the worst way and I’d gotten him a pair for Christmas and he loved them but they were WAY too long. 3 1/2 inches way too long!
Now these things aren’t cheap and I knew from past experience that when they’re that much too long, they end up ripping where they get walked on so I set out to “hem” them! Boy, it’s been a LONG time since I did any mending like this but we’re talking quite a bit of money so I persevered.
I always have my knitting bag within reach. I knit often. I thought I had some sewing needles in there but they were way too big so I had to set off to find my sewing kit. 3 hours later I found a small bobbin container with a bunch of thread colors so off I went. I got one pair done and then a another. 2 down, 1 to go.
This last pair was a very pretty blue pair. They’re the ones showing in this post. I didn’t have any thread even close to that blue. What to do? First let me say that I’m pretty much the only one who sees him in these pants. He never wears them anywhere but inside the house. If someone stopped by after we’d settled in for the night, they’d see them but that never happens. SO….I had black thread. It wouldn’t have looked very good so I waited. And waited. And waited because I never remembered to look when I went to the store.
Lo and behold I was cleaning out the bedroom linen closet and found my “real” sewing kit and thread and needles and stuff and lo and behold, I had a nice blue for these pants and now they’re all done.
But it does leave me to ask myself, what he heck was the difference? Did it really matter if the thread matched the pants? Would you have used any old color? What would you have done?
I’m so odd this way I know but I can’t stand crooked pictures on the wall or if I see a brown leaf on a plant or something that looks uneven, I straighten it. I hate telephone cords that are twisted up. I hate electric cords that are all messed up. I hate a window with a smudge.
Is this perfectionism or just a fussy phobia of mine?
What bugs you?
People who have spit connected to their upper and lower lips when they talk bugs the heck out of me!
You can use any color thread you want to sew their mouth shut and I could care less how that looks.
I have a tan/brown mans uniform shirt that i wear for the sheriff’s dept and when i got it, put it on and it came down wayyyyyyyyyy below my butt(too much to tuck in) so i cut it off and hemmed it with ‘bright purple’ thread cause thats all i could find. lol
Noone will ever see it because our shirts are tucked in. LOL
I probably would have used black rather than wait.
But I do have some of that perfectionist stuff that you mentioned, some of the time. Sometimes I just can’t stand it unless I’m shutting the doors and drawers that are slightly ajar, straightening up piles of stuff, etc. Other times, I can ignore it. I must be very difficult to live with.
I’ve actually paid to have my Scout Uniform patches sewn on because I don’t have the right color thread!!! So, yeah, I TOTALLY get it.
I have some perfectionist quirks – mostly when I’m doing a project or craft. Also, when I write. I cannot STAND to have grammar or punctuation errors in my writing. When I do a cake, it takes me three times what it would take a “normal” person, because it has to be just so.
I also hate twisted phone cords, although I’ve given up on some, because they’re permanently twisted…
Oh I just can’t stand twisted phone cords either. I also can’t stand all the wires behind the TV and for the computers but there’s not much I can do about that. No matter how many times I try and get them in order, they get messed up. All it takes is one!
Add to the mess of cords back there…. one hyper kitten in KittyWhumpus Mode!! He regularly shoots back there and I hear all kinds of rustling around. I haven’t figured out how to keep him out yet, but it’s making me NUTS.
I notice things like crooked pictures, things that are clearly out of place and I’d love nothing more than to fix it all…but I don’t…..until no one is looking. 😉
I think I would have just used the black thread. Mainly, because I couldn’t wait. I’m awful at the waiting part.
I think it’s a bit of perfectionism. I know I am a bit that way too, and it drives Jason nuts. The house can be pretty dang spotless, expect maybe a pair of shoes on the floor, or a few toys out. I have to pick those up, or in my mind, my house is a mess!
So, it would probably drive you guys absolutely nuts to have someone come over and move a couple pictures *just enough* to make them a little crooked???
I did that to my mom once. Made every picture in her house just *that much* off-level. MUAHAHAHAhahahahahahahahahaha!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You are PURE evil!!!!
Why, thank you!!! 😀
