As Seen On TV…

So I went surfing around, looking for post inspiration, and sometimes, even though I cannot stand The View, I find they have some good topics for discussion. And the other day, I found this. It’s a double-segment that they did (two videos) on some ‘As Seen On TV’ products. I watched the video set, and it prompted some questions for me….

1. Would you, or have you, ever buy a product because it was advertised in one of those infomercials? I think these were all on a particular channel; something similar to QVC, I’m thinking. That’s the impression I got.

2. Would you go for one of these particular products that the guy was profiling? (they’re listed above the videos, as well)

3. What the HECK was that last product???? Honestly, I kinda had the same look that Elisabeth Hasselbeck had on her face when I realized, like she did, exactly what that thing was supposed to be! And then I thought… what??? Why would you wear something like that, and dayum it looks uncomfortable!!

I have to be honest with you. I’m drawn to the ShoveIt lint roller. As the proud owner of a Golden Retriever, I’m also a very furry owner, because Goldens love to share. They can’t help it, it’s just their way of showing love. Consequently, I go through those stupid tape rollers, and rolls of duct tape, like there’s no tomorrow. It’s crazy. So if that lint roller is as good as it looks, I’m buying three. One for home, one for the truck, and one just to have as a spare. I’m keeping an eye at my Wal-Mart – they carry many of these products, so if it shows up, I might grab it, so I don’t have to pay the stupid shipping fees.

How about you? Are you an “As Seen On TV” shopper?

Where’d you get that hamster widget? It’s so damn cute.

I don’t think I’ve ever bought from an infomercial, but then, I’m that unique combination of cheap and cynical. I’m also old enough to know that if it’s really as good as they say it is, they’ll be selling it at Wal-Mart within the year.

I could not see the lint roller you’re talking about, but I do have one that you just rinse and re-use. it’s small, so I’m not sure it would do much for dog hair, but I used to use it to sharpen up my black suits etc. I don’t remember where I got it, but knowing me, it was Walmart or someplace cheaper.

Our business sold a bunch of imported jewelry on HSN, many years ago. What a lot of work that was (to package all the sets in felt boxes before shipping). Oh well, at least that’s one more thing I can say I’ve done in my life, LOL.

Paul used to have an infomercial addiction! Me, not so much. He’s gotten pots and pans, ladders, painting stuff. None of it we use anymore and I hated the pots and pans because they weren’t Teflon and everything stuck to them. I guess you have to like that sort of thing.

I once bought some laptop holder things and they were nothing but junk. I never used them but what happened was when you order that stuff they keep asking you to “add one more for free and only pay for postage” and I orderd one for Darryl and my nephew Shane and the shipping was more than the holder. Oh man, I never used mine. The plastic was so weak that it didn’t hold the laptop at all securely.

I have picked up things from time to time from that Walmart isle. I got the micro fiber cloths and they do work really well on windows and glass but I couldn’t stand the feeling of it on my hands. I got that thing that scraped the dead skin off your feet. TOTAL WASTE. It only made my feet hurt.

When we buy this stuff we are thinking like kids. Nothing works like they say it will. I love posts like this.

I thought about this too. Paul bought this Rotisserie once years ago and we still do use it. Not as much as we used to because we have one for our outdoor grill but this makes chicken or a roast super good.

Either the spam folder ate my original comment or I don’t know what I’m doing with my new DROID BIONIC. Shirley it can’t be me.

Anyway; I tried to watch the clip but honestly those people just make me sick. I got throutgh the first four seconds and that’s it.

As for buying things from late night or early morning TV; I used to do that all the time in the mid 70s- mid 80s. Those Ginsu knives were pretty cool. You really could cut through a beer can then slice a tomato!

No, I am not one that gets sucked in. Well, I take that back. I do end up watching some and thinking I should buy it…but then I come to my senses. Do I really need it? No, probably not. Maybe a few years ago, I’d buy anything but I’ve turned into a penny pincher over the last few years. Very rarely do I buy something I don’t need.

Once, many years ago, I bought these hooks. They were the suction type. They were advertising them for holding stockings. It held a bowling ball, so I fell for it, and they threw in 6 more for free! Who could resist. Well, they never even held my empty stockings!!! Total waste of money!

I do look through the “As seen on TV” isle at Walmart occasionally, and the Mall of America has a store that is fun to go through. I never buy any of it, though.

That sad thing is some of the stuff is okay. But they get you on the shipping and handling. I don’t mind trying things at Walmart because you avoid it that way. I’d love to go to a whole store like that. I still need to get to that new dollar store in Buffalo.

Some of it is! Believe me, I’ve been tempted. lol

OMG My sister would kill me if she knew I was telling everyone this…but she’ll never know. hehe….Okay, she was not blessed with a behind, at all! She bought these things called “Booty Pops” from the TV ….like a stuffed bra but for your butt! She bought them!!! I had never in my life laughed so hard as I did when I saw them in person when she came to visit. lolol

I’ve bought one thing from the “As Seen…” aisle at WalMart, and it was a stuffing-free “stuffed animal” for Cruiser. OH MY GOSH, did he love that!!! Tossed it around, carried it for days. Then shredded it, and carried the pieces around for another month. I’ve bought him two or three since they started carrying it. It’s kind of a waste, because he kills every one of them dead, but it’s also worth it, because he’s really not a “dog toy” dog. He prefers things he can chew, like bones and empty cardboard egg cartons. But he just loved those animals.

Everything else, I look at and go… yeah… maybe… no. Like that roller thing. I’ve decided that a roll of duct tape is just as good.
