Plants, dirt, swamps.
*sigh* if I knew, I’d be doing it. My problem is that I am so fascinated by SO many things, I can’t focus on one job to do. I want to bop around and do a thousand different things – musician, teacher, naturalist, business woman, animal/veterinary technician, the list goes on and on.
I’ve also never really had a good answer for this. I used to think I wanted to teach children, but now in my middle age, I don’t think it would be as enjoyable (my patience level isn’t what it used to be). Or maybe it would.
I love different kinds of work in moderation. You know, a balance of hands on stuff, intellectual stuff, people stuff and back-office stuff. So there really isn’t one job that I’m sure would give me unending happiness.
I loved working for all my years at the school but I couldn’t do that again. Too much has changed and I’m not nearly as patient as I once was. I did love teaching toddlers swimming lessons because it’s like painting, you can see what you’ve done.
When I lived in Canada I worked in a small grocery store in a small town and part of the time I worked in the deli and I LOVED that. I made all the lunches for the people who came in and ate there and I got to make soups and stews. Subs and fried chicken. Pizza’s, spaghetti, taco salads and I loved it. Plus we baked our own breads. Everyday it was different and it never got boring. I’d do it in a minute in that kind of store again. It was fun to go to work.
I really enjoyed working in the Cub deli and would do it again, but I would want to be in more of a small town store like you described. That is fun, especially when you have fun coworkers.
I’m glad this QOD wasn’t posted right away, because I didn’t have a solid answer when I came up with it. I do love young kids, but the older I get, the less I want to do it. What I would really love doing is some kind of landscaping. Coming up with a design, and doing the work. Planting gardens, making backyards into dream retreats. That would be fun!
I’d love to be creating things with my hands all the time. It would be great to make enough money that someone else could do all the time sucking things that take up the day – laundry, grocery shopping, cooking all the time, tending the garden etc. I like doing those things, but they take too much time!
