Mashed. Potatoes. OH, how I hated mashed potatoes growing up! I would gag on them!! My parents didn’t believe me for YEARS, and every time we had them, I’d get a mound of them, slathered with gravy, and the admonishment… clean your plate!! I’d gag it down, hating every minute. Finally, they realized that I wasn’t trying to just ‘get out of eating’ something, that I truly couldn’t handle them, and they let me off the hook.

Now I LOVE them. But I’ve since realized that it wasn’t so much the potatoes that I hated, but the gravy!! And when you serve mashed potatoes, it’s just automatic that you douse them with gravy! Now, I eat them mixed with garlic and slathered with butter.

Don’t know if there’s anything that’s the reverse… liked as a kid, hate now. I’ll have to think about that.

I used to think cooked carrots and onions were the devil. I also wasn’t a fan of rice or peas. And of course, coffee. Now I have no problem with these.

But as a middle aged adult, there are many things I dislike that I ate as a child / young adult. Mainly stuff that is syrupy sweet.

    • Laura says:

yeah, I agree with the wicked sweet stuff. I can eat it in moderation, but some stuff, just *gag*. Although I think some of it is WAY sweeter than when we were kids. (must not start HFCS rant… that’s in the queue for another day)

    Spinach!

  4. I apparently loved bananas as a little girl but I can’t stand the smell of them or the texture of them now… Although I do like banana bread, so go figure, right?

    • Joy says:

Maybe it’s just the texture you don’t like. They are kinda squishy. I hate lima beans for that reason. I hate the way they feel.

I hated any kind of salad that had mayo in it. Like potato, tuna, chicken salads. I wasn’t crazy about raw onions but I’d eat them.

Now I love all those salads but still hate mayo or salad dressing on anything but in those. I wouldn’t be able to eat a sandwich if it had that on there. I don’t know why but I just can’t stand it. I’m also like SKL. I used to like more candy and sweets. Now I could get by with my once or twice a month bowl of ice cream.

When I was younger I used to eat sardines, liver, venison…wouldn’t touch any of that today!!

  7. Nikki says:

I ate sardines as a child too, Jenny. It’s one of few memories I have of me with my dad. We’d sit in the recliner and eat them right out of the can. Now? No way!!! Mac n cheese. I can’t stand that stuff now. I’ll choke it down if there is hamburger in it.

I hated most veggies, other than corn or green beans. Now, I love it all…pile it all on!!! I’ll eat almost anything now. I hated red meat, and now I’ll eat it although it’s not my favorite. Sometimes I do crave a good steak.

That’s funny I just talked about this in a post today. I don’t like cooked carrots but I use to be fine with them as a kid. When I was a kid I didn’t care for saurquart but now I’m OK eatting it sometimes.
