T.G.I.F.

Happy Friday, everyone. Things have been quiet around here, so I thought I’d put up a T.G.I.F. to check in more or less. Joy has had a long, hard week but things are turning around and she’s feeling much better. She is home from the hospital now, however she won’t be around here for a while. Her eye sight isn’t good enough to read yet. I’m not sure when that will get better, but lets all hope it’s very soon! It’s a side effect from the chemo she had last week. *I think* don’t quote me on that. It is temporary though, that much I know. Keep her in your thoughts, and I’ll try to keep this updated as well.

How was your week? Any fun weekend plans you’d like to share? I’ll be getting most of my Christmas shopping done. Are you finished shopping, or haven’t you started yet? I’m always waiting till the last minute, and having it done by the end of the weekend *fingers crossed* will be extremely early for me.

Have a great weekend, and we’ll catch up next week!

Hi, everyone! I’m sorry to hear Joy had such a sucky week. I hope things get better soon. I can’t imagine not being able to read. My mom has that problem as well, though for a different reason. I just hope this is extremely temporary for Joy.

My week was not very eventful. Got some work done, still behind as usual, trying to get some Christmas stuff done with the kids. They saw Santa on Tuesday (at Bob Evans, LOL). Santa said, “do you have a camera?” Duh! No. I’m such a genius about those things. On Wednesday we all went to the annual diversity party at City Hall, to enjoy ethnic food, music, and dance. Thursday the kids sang for the church Advent service. I brought out our Christmas storybooks and kiddy decorations/toys. On Sunday the kids will perform n the schoolwide Christmas program and then attend a “birthday party for Jesus.” At some point, I need to get Christmas photos of them so I can send out Christmas cards.

I was up most of the night a couple days ago, finally doing my online Christmas shopping. I had no time to fool around, so I basically just bought whatever I could remember of what the kids asked for, and one gift for each of the young nieces/nephews. I spent way too much because of stuff shipping from multiple places, etc. And I still have to figure out what to do for the older family members.

My kid asked for Superman and Spiderman stuff. You would think this would be easy to find, right? Well, not really, unless you want to spend an arm and a leg. I finally came up with a Spiderman, Superman, and Batman, but then I thought, how about Wonder Woman? Ha! Apparently everything Wonder Woman is a collectible and priced accordingly. Ugh.

Well, the reason I’m up right now is so I can get some work done. So I’d better get to it!

I hope everyone has a good weekend!

What a crazy weekend. First off… Joy, if someone is reading this to you… hang in there. We’re all praying for you. I’ll stick a little off-color humor in here and offer to steal one of Steve’s canes and send it up to you, if you’d like…

My weekend story starts two weeks ago. Josh had a wrestling tournament. I might have mentioned it, I don’t remember. Anyway, these tourneys are made up of a whole bunch of schools’ teams competing. We’re dealing with kids in grades K-8 here, so imagine 10 schools, all with teams ranging from 1-10 kids, plus parents, coaches… it’s a free-for-all. So there are a slew of kids on these two big mats before the tourney starts, and this is “warm-up”. In reality, it is “mass chaos”, because NOBODY is in charge, and everybody is just sitting there watching (read: observing and not supervising) the kids. Most of them are doing what they’re supposed to: stretching, wrestling drills, or wrestling their teammates. Some of them, like the kids from that other school, are running absolutely wild, doing gymnastics (seriously, they were doing backflips and flip-flops across the mat where kids were wrestling), and running around like lunatics.

Well, Josh and a younger teammate were wrestling. Josh was on top of the younger boy (thank goodness), when these two kids from another school came running through, jumping over the kids who were wrestling. they jumped over Josh and E, and landed square on Josh’s arm. He came up to me in the stands: “MOM!!! My wrist is broken! I know it!!” Well, I’m the daughter of a coach/gym teacher. My lifelong-ingrained response to any injury is, “walk it off, put some ice on it.” Which is exactly what we did. His coach looked it over, as did I – we palpated the whole wrist where he said it was hurting and found nothing. Josh wrestled 4 matches that day. He went to wrestling practice that week. Wrestled another tournament on the following Sunday (this past, the 2nd). Went to wrestling practices again this week. On Wednesday, he said that his arm was still hurting. Same on Thursday. So Friday, I called the doc and asked them to do an X-ray.

It was broken. Hairline fracture about halfway up the ulna. I am officially Mom of the Year. Put a sticker on my forehead. I suck. He is now in a cast that his entire wrestling team has signed (because he had his final practice on Friday, to turn in his equipment), and his coach gave him the “Toughest Wrestler” award. In my guilt, I bought him a donut, two rounds of video mini-golf, and dinner. And I will be tying his shoes and washing his hair for the next two weeks. He gets his cast off on Dec. 28…. which is my birthday. Another little “way-to-go, mom” jab. *sigh*

I signed his cast: “Next time I promise to believe you!! Love Mom”

Wow, he’s a tough kid if he did all that wrestling with a fractured arm!

I probably would have done the same as you. And I probably would have felt the same way afterwards. Except that I probably wouldn’t have been nice enough to apologize! 🙂

Oh, the boy is milking it!!! “Mo-ommmm, can you tie my shoe? Mo-ommmm, I can’t get my shirt off! Mo-ommmm… can you carry my backpack?” sigh. I tie his shoe. He got himself stuck in his shirt on purpose, so I laughed at him. And I showed him that he actually has TWO arms with which to carry the back pack. But I did give him a sponge bath because I swear that Wal-mart pre-perforates their bags to prevent them from being watertight and keeping a cast dry during a shower.

Well, it’s Friday again, woo hoo! The kids’ last school day of 2012 is today.

This past week Miss A met a milestone. Her first detention! Yippee! An hour long at that. For taking a candy cane off the class Christmas tree. Boy, am I ready for school vacation!

Last Sunday the girls each played the piano in front of the church. They both stumbled at first, but they pulled through and I was mighty proud. So that was a happy first. Miss E only lip-synched her short “solo” (which, it turned out, was actually assigned to two girls, so at least one kid sang it). I know she gets stage-fright, so I was not terribly surprised that she couldn’t sing into the mike. At least she did everything else she was supposed to do. Better than prior years.

I’m getting nervous as there are many relatives I haven’t bought for yet, and I have out-of-town guests coming this weekend (if the snow doesn’t scare them off). I also have work piling up at an amazing pace. My house is about as messy as it has ever been. I haven’t even taken Christmas photos of the girls, to put in Christmas cards, which I haven’t written yet. Hopefully the next 30 hours will see lots of progress!

So what’s happening with all you guys?

    How’s Joy doing this week?
