No I am not. I know it’s important too and I should but I don’t. It always makes me weak, tired and rather sickly feeling. 😦
Believe it or not, I’ve never done this but like Gary, know I should. I’m not even bothered by needles so I have no excuse. My dad does it religiously.
Several times ive given blood but havent now for some years. my last time giving it i had to sit there afterwards about 30 minutes cause i nearly fainted so i said thats enough.
I have in the past, probably a couple of gallons total. I did it whenever I could while I was young. More recently, it seems every time the blood mobile was around, I was ineligible because I wasn’t feeling well, had recently been to a developing country, or hadn’t slept the night before.
I too almost fainted when I gave blood once or twice. I think it was more because of looking at the blood than the physical effect of donating. If I don’t look, I feel great! Also, I have to insist that they poke my left arm. Once they used my right arm because they only had a right-arm chair open, and after I spent 20 minutes squeezing out that blood (as they adjusted the needle numerous times), they stopped because 20 minutes is the max. It was almost full, but they said they might have to throw out the whole thing. I think that might have been the time I got woozy, too, and of course I had a bruise afterward. Definitely not a satisfying moment in my life.
You know, just looking at that photo of a bag of blood is making me light-headed! Weird.
I am not either even though I’ve SEEN how important it is! I’m not afraid of needles either so I don’t have much of an excuse. Our health class in high school brought us to the blood drive once, and we got to fill out the questionier and sit with someone donating and some of the kids did donate. All I remember is the question of “do you have any cold sypmtoms?” My nose is always stuffy, my ears are always plugged so that was my excuse 😦 Poor, I know so maybe next time they’re in town….
I have/do give blood as well as platelets. Gallons of gallons. The Red Cross would rather you give platelets. That’s where they take the blood out of one arm spin all the blood clotting factors out of it and put the “left over” blood back in the other arm. It can take over an hour maybe even almost two hours. It’s no fun at all but they let you pick out a movie to watch while you are laying there and give you a set of head phones.
The last time I checked I think I was over 15 gallons in life time donations. Of course the count by “needle sticks” so you get double “credit” when you do the platelets.
I want to VERY much! But I’m underweight and underaged 😦
nope.. They dont like the fact that i’m anemic nor the fact that (as stated to me before) I wasted their time because after 5 sticks they still couldn’t get my vein) even though I warned them i’m an extremely hard stick. And the fact that I get really sick afterwards and often end up having to lay down for almost an hour makes it worse..
So anytime they have a blood drive at my kids school.. My MIL goes for me.. 🙂
I wish I would… I hate needles and even have a hard time going to get blood drawn for my own health tests.
No but like everyone else I know I should.
I donate blood 2 or 3 times a year mostly to the MD Anderson cancer center.
I did once but I felt sickly after and faint so that was the first and last.My hubby does regularly, they always call him wanting him to make it out because he has a rare blood type and I quess its needed. So at least one of us donates..makes me feel better.
My husband does, and I want to. I’ll look into it now that I don’t have kids with me on Tues/Thurs.
I am not because they will not use butterfly needles which is how they have to get blood from me. I tried once a couple of years before I got my last tattoo and they made such a mess of my arm (bruising) and stuff I had to make a trip to the ER.
A couple of years ago they let this girl who didn’t even speak english try to stick me. Now remember these needles are 16 guage needles (about as big around as pencil lead). After three tries I got so ticked off I left and it took some time for me to get over it.
In the end I try to remember that I’m not doing it for fun or for me. But still it hurst. lol
No, ma’am. I was sick when I was a little kid, and now my blood isn’t good enough for them. Too many little germies swimming around, I guess.
But if I could, I would.
