My first job was delivering newspapers. I think I was 12 not sure it was a long time ago, Then bagging groceries.

I was babysitting when I was 10. That age sure seems young to me now. I think it’s against the law. I’m not sure if I was just mature or if things have changed that much. When I was 14 I got a job being a car-hop at my girlfriends dad’s restaurant. We had a blast working there.

My first job was washing bottles and waiting on customers on my grandpa’s dairy farm. The first job I had that wasn’t part of a family business was waiting on customers in a fish market/restaurant.

I started babysitting young also probably 10. But my first real job was when I was 16. I was a dishwasher/waitress at a very small cafe in a VERY small town called Virginia City, Montana. Population maybe a couple hundred. It was very boring!!!

  6. SKL says:

When I was about 8, I was hired to tutor a 5-year-old in reading. I earned a quarter.

I also had my first paid babysitting jobs (for non-relatives) at age 10. I’d been taking care of my baby brother after school since I was 9.

I occasionally earned a dime here and there for helping someone wash dishes, or a quarter and free fried mushrooms for folding pizza boxes at a little pizza place. Not sure of my age but probably under 10. Had paper routes starting at 13.

  7. SKL says:

OK, did you mean a job with a regular paycheck, from an official business? Does under the table count? When I was 18 I was a carney selling sausage sandwiches at fairs. I believe I was 19 by the time I got my first job that involved paying social security. I am not sure which came first – the 7 days in a nursing home or the 1 month in a grocery store deli – but after that I started my own business selling used books.

My first job was babysitting for 3 kids who were complete BRATS!!!!!!!!!!! It was the longest summer of my life, but I felt bad for the kids because their parents weren’t the greatest. Nice people, just not great parents. After that it was cashiering at Super Valu.

  9. Jane says:

I babysat also and helped out a neighbor who’s husband was killed in an accident.

I took over my brother’s newspaper route. I can’t remember my age, maybe 5th or 6th grade. In 7th, 8th, and 9th grade, during the summers, I babysat every week day.

  11. Shane says:

My 1st job was working at Hardees, which is now a Burger King. It was the worst job ever, I think I was making like $4.85 an hour or close to that.

  12. Joy says:

    YEAH…Shane’s here… 🙂

  13. Tosha says:

My first job was working at a daycare in the afternoons after school . I worked there for a few years before I called it quits. I couldnt take anymore.

  14. Ali says:

I started out at Dairy Queen. It was a good job. I didn’t love it but it worked around all my school stuff so that was good.

  15. Mendocino Ice Cream Company! Scooping ice cream for a bunch of overheated tourists. Pay was lousy and the long hours made the fingers of my scooping hand go numb, but I got free ice cream, so what more could a teenager ask for!
