Yes, sort of. I ordered two boxes of stuff from the Oriental Trading Company for my kids to make cookies and crafts and decorate gift boxes/bags. I also bought a variety of Christmassy small toys/cheap gifts for my kids to wrap up for their cousins / teachers / classmates / etc. I bought my kids’ Christmas outfits (still need shoes though). I bought some small picture frame tree ornaments to give the girls’ Xmas photos to the aunts & uncles and such. I’m ready to order gift cards from my credit card “points.” I have bought tickets for the “Polar Express” train ride with Santa.

I am under strict orders from my mom not to buy anything for the grown-ups in my family. However, I have always bought something for everyone, even when I was in elementary school, so this will be hard. I will most likely come up with one reasonable gift per adult, and one or two per child (in addition to whatever my kids give.)

I asked for the “wish list” for a charity that I donate to. I’ll probably buy some school supply type stuff for the kids served by that organization. I also have some stuff around the house to donate to them at Christmas time.

Chances are, I have some Christmas gifts lying around that I bought early and have now forgotten. I also have tons of stuff in the basement, that I bought years ago, that my kids are now “growing into.” I must do a good cleaning well before Christmas in order to find everything before I go buy too much other stuff.

No @ shopping, yes @ decorating..gotta get things out and up while the weather is nice.

  3. Laura says:

    oh, HELL no!!!

I have, however, started thinking about making a list of stuff that might be a good idea to think about buying for someone in my family…

I have 1 list and my daughter is working on hers. All of my shopping will be done (dot) com style! I miss the days when they were little and I fought my way through the aisle of the store to find just the right doll or car or whatever. Now I just push a button and wait for it to be delivered to my door.

we are lucky to have family members who feel like we do..it can be too much and so we just play it year by year and see how finances are for everybody and when people are strapped we say..not this year and it’s ok with everybody. this year is a not this year with everybody so I only have my two mini’s to buy for.

I have not even started to think about Christmas this year! Today on XM radio they have turned one of my stations into the Holly station. I almost died when I heard Christmas music, it’s too early!

  6. Lucy says:

Not really… except I did go into a store yesterday and found the perfect gift for my friend. So I bought it. I can’t believe stores are already playing x-mas songs. How is it already mid-November. Wasn’t it just July??!!!

  7. nikki says:

No, I do have ideas and we’ll start next weekend. I am looking forward to putting decorations out, I don’t do any outside though. I put ours up the day after Thanksgiving. Christmas music? Well my husband loves it, not too many people who know him would believe that but we listen to it often during the holidays!!

  8. Gary says:

I bought my wife’s Christmas present this weekend. We haven’t shopped for anyone else yet. We better get on the stick too! 😀

  9. javajunkee says:

I do NOT want to hear christmas music or see christmas lights turned on until black friday…and I mean it!

    • Joy says:

I did turn my lights on Sat to make sure they worked and see if I needed to add “one more” string to my lilacs. They don’t get turned on till the day after Thanksgiving.

Call me weird, but I’m ready for the Christmas music to start. Maybe it’s because I don’t get much store time these days. I was pumped when I took my kids to Lowes over a week ago and they already had Christmas stuff out (big yard stuff for sale, etc.) I’m ready! I already switched the CD in my car to Celine Dion’s “special times” or whatever it is.

I don’t really decorate for Christmas. We keep our tree up all year long, and another “light crazy” resident does the outside lights and makes the indoors gaudy. I do need to go to the basement and bring up all the kiddy Christmas stuff like the Fisher Price Nativity, Santa train and Christmas books. (They are already playing Christmas CDs on their CD player! I didn’t even prompt them!) I was thinking of waiting until after Thanksgiving for this because I want to focus a little on Thanksgiving. But at school, they are already being brainwashed about Santa and the whole business.

Now what I really need is a new / repaired DVD player so we /they can watch the holiday DVDs – Charlie Brown, Rudolph, etc. Mama needs to get her butt in gear!

  11. Laura says:

I take it back. I DID make a Christmas Purchase last week. My brother and I went out to buy a birthday present for my mom and I found a DVD of “BAH! Humduck!” – a Daffy Duck Christmas Movie – at the same store. I’ve been looking for it for years, so I grabbed it.

But otherwise? Thanksgiving first. Nothing “Christmas” starts around here until “Twinkle” shows up on Dec. 1. That’s the rule.

  12. Sue says:

Yes! I have a great start on my shopping but it was quite by accident. I am NOT ready for the damn music in the stores though! Why can’t we be thankful for Thanksgiving first?? Nope, they gotta shove Christmas down our throats so that we forget “the reason for the season”!
