Tag line: “GET KNOCKED UP THIS SUMMER?”
This is really sad. I have a girlfriend who has a daughter in the high school now, and she just told me that there are at least 4-5 girls (14-15 yr olds) pregnant in our school. It’s so sad.
As you know my Mrs. teaches at the highschool level. Last year they began a pilot program, providing night school. Some of the girls who became pregnant and had babies during school are now able to attend night school and graduate. It is all computer generated. She is the on-site coordinator and there is a teacher present for each subject matter.
Last year they increased their graduation rate by over one percent. That may not sound like much but that was district wide. Which means there were a few hundred students who graduated highschool that would not have received that diploma without the night school program.
It’s sad to say, but there are now a LOT of expectant teenagers in the school system, so these sales actually make a sad statement. The program Michael mentions is great! In my area there are also schools that offer night school for kids that aren’t suited for the regular school hrs for whatever reasons. The reasons vary greatly, but the kids graduate and actually move on to college. This is a wonderful tlhing! My gd knows a lot of these kids, and from what I can see, they’re all well on their way to good careers as a result of the night schooling. I can’t praise these programs enough!
