Question of the day from Jenny

Dunno that I had one.
When I was around 12 or 13, I was taking riding lessons, and every year, we had a Halloween Lesson, which involved a contest to see who could come up with the best horse-and-rider combo. My parents were always wicked costume makers, and I’ve always been fascinated by “The Legend of Sleep Hollow”, so…… I went as the Headless Horseman.
My dad made a fake set of shoulders and neck (it was all bloody), my mom made a black cape. I wore a black shirt, dark jeans and my tall black boots. And in my hand, I carried one of those plastic trick-or-treating pumpkins that we had modified. On one side, it had a smiling face. That wouldn’t do. So we turned it around and drew a spookier face on it, and stapled an old wig to the top, and I held it by the hair.
The best part was, I drew a horse named “Roanie” for that lesson. She was a pink ‘fleabitten’ roan, which means that her coloring involved very pinkish spots on a whitish coat. She looked like a white horse that had been splattered with blood. And in the photo I have, it was a bit dark in the arena, so her eyes are glowing from the flash. It was awesome.
I won five free lessons with that costume, which amounted to around $50.
that’s awesome!!
There was one year that my sister was the headless horseman and my dad carved out a pumpkin and she wore it on her head. I can’t remember what I was that year.
I guess I really only remember a few costumes and that’s from looking back at pictures. I was the lion from the Wizard of Oz, my sister was the tin man. I remember being an angel in the blizzard of 1991 when we went in the ditch and I had to leave my wand behind.
Oh Jenny! That’s so sad!!! LOL! Didn’t you get it back after they pulled the car out of the ditch?
LOL no it was probably buried in the snow. To this day, I still hate that corner!!!
That really made me laugh too! Poor Jenny had to leave her wand behind!!! LOL
I can’t remember a ‘favorite’. I was thinking how Jenny and Melissa always had great costumes. The year they went as Big Bird and Cookie Monster (I think it was cookie monster) was awesome. They used colored kleenex and we knew where we’d been in town b/c there was kleenex everywhere! Ha ha ha!
Really? I don’t remember that at all!!!!! I hardly remember anything from my childhood. jeesh
yes u were the cookie monster, you wore snowsuits and we taped tissues over the entire suit..we had to keep u away from the lit lanterns. lol
I only ever had one real costume, and that was when I was a little tyke. I was Sabrina the Teenage Witch for years. Then I just used whatever I could find around the house to dress up like a gypsy, pirate, whatever. Eventually I just took a pillowcase around (carried like a bag of booty) and declared that I was a “robber.”
Halloween has never really been “big” for me. So I honestly don’t have any memories of an awesome costume or the like.
You know, I have no clue! My mom made all of our costumes. She just threw stuff together and made up our faces.I remember being a witch one year. That’s all I can remember. I’ll have to really think hard on this one.
Dont think I have a favorite. We didnt do Halloween for too many years and when we did we just rummaged through closets and came up with a made up costume.I do how ever remember being totally embarrassed by the “wand” my mom made me one year. Not sure if I was suppose to look like a fairy or princess..some made up thing, and she covered a wooden spoon with tin foil.LOL!Very creative!Aw,I loved her!Thats the only thing i can remember,oh and using pillow cases for the candy.
We used pillow cases for candy too! LOL @ the foil wand!!!
Aunt Dorothy really was the best.
