What’s in your purse?

When my kids were young, I never had a big enough purse.  As time’s gone on, my purses keep getting smaller and smaller.  I used to only carry the shoulder strap kind but now I’ve gotten used to just the short handled purse.  I could probably use a clutch with the small amount I carry but I don’t like those.

I have my wallet, which is kind of big.  I have a pocket knife, an eye glass cleaner cloth, nail file, 2 pens, a traveling hand lotion, a tampon, dental floss and my cherry lypsl.  I am NEVER without dental floss or my lypsl even if I don’t have a purse.  I do carry a pack of gum for the grand-kids but I don’t chew gum.  Since I’ve started blogging I also carry a notepad in there because when I get an idea if I don’t write it down, that thought is gone.  I also have a cell phone that never gets used.  If I leave the house and it’s sunny, I do bring my sun glasses and I should carry them in there all the time but I forget.  I also have a few hand cleaner wipes since I’m so obsessed concerned about keeping my hands clean.

There are times some of my husbands stuff ends up in my purse.  But for the most part, since my kids have grown, my purse is now my own again.

I know some people who won’t go in someone else’s purse but I could really care less if anyone wants to go in mine, go ahead.  I really do have to say that anyone who “hides” something in their purse, isn’t being very smart.  I have a cousin that when I first see her, she’ll go through every single thing in my purse.  She thinks it’s fun.  I also have a few bowling friends who like to “prank” me and will put things in there or take something out.  Like eating M & M’s out of there that belonged to my granddaughter.  That got HUGE laughs!!

I also wonder how many purses most women use?  I have a winter purse and a summer one.  I’m a terrible creature of habit and I won’t buy a purse unless I really like it and I can never seem to find one that I really like.  My winter one I just love and haven’t gotten a new one in years.  My summer ones tend to change and since I really don’t like them “that” much, I won’t pay much for summer ones.  My winter one is leather and did cost quite a bit.

So, I’m wondering, what do you all have in your purse and if it’s really your own or is it a “family bag” or catch all??

I don’t carry a purse. I try to wear clothes with pockets, because I do need to carry my keys, a bit of cash, a pocket comb, a kleenex or two, a slim business card holder containing my driver’s license and a few credit cards, and sometimes a pony tail holder. For skirt suits that don’t have pockets, I have a special comb that I hang inside the skirt, and I put my bare necessities in my portfolio or whatever other work bag I might be bringing. My Treo can also go in my portfolio or coat pocket or I just carry it or leave it in the car. If I have my kids with me, I can use their stroller pocket or a pocket of their diaper bag for my Treo. In winter, I also carry a lip balm and gloves in my coat pockets.

i have nothing. A wallet I lose more then carry. A pocket full of wadded up money. The only thing I DO NOT LEAVE the house without, is smokes and coffee and my keen sense of wit. I sometimes bring the funny, but that is so big I usually leave at home for the wife to enjoy

Let’s see I have my wallet, carmex, 2 pens, kleenex, and a pony tail holder. I usually have a small purse, but it HAS to be able to go on my shoulder because my hands are usually taken by little kids.

Jason you are too much!!! You should try taking the funny and sarcasm to work with you and leave it for Marlin. Give me a break from it:)

  5. Joy says:

Okay, I give up! What’s “the funny???”

  6. nikki says:

    Oh he thinks he’s funny!!!

OK, so far I am the only person who carries a comb. I woulda thought that would be on everyone’s list. I’m terrified to go anywhere without one. Either I have nastier hair or a comb obsession (not that I really use it much, just need it for emergencies like windiness). And here I am thinking I’m low maintenance.

SKL…I don’t carry a comb because with all the mousse and hairspray in my hair, I couldn’t even get a comb through my hair!! I haven’t used a comb in YEARS! I use a metal pick or a brush with springy things and only when I first get out of the shower or at the end of the day when I want to get the hairspray out and then I have to do it very carefully so I don’t break all my hair.

This reminds me of a little funny. My mom has always needed a purse because there are many things she can’t leave home without. Used to be mainly make-up and other vanity stuff. Gradually her medical situation started taking over her purse. Several years ago, I won a trip for two to Disney World so I took my mom and we went on a one-day cruise to the Bahamas too. Before getting on the boat, she put her purse on the security belt without closing it and like 20 bottles of prescription pills rolled all over the place. So that’s what her purse mostly is nowadays – a medicine cabinet – a kajillion pills, artificial tear vials, and medical supplies to care for this or that.

Try keeping your dental floss in a Gripit Floss Holder (www.gripit.biz). It’s always ready to use and easy to find with the bright colored holder.

  11. Jason says:

you sound like a floss salesmen Bill…

  12. Joy says:

Thanks Bill. I went and looked at them and they look cool. Believe me, if I see them in a store, I’ll be the sucker to buy one!! LOL!!!

I’m a purse junkie. Its the only thing I splurge on for myself.. I love purses and have so many my husband made me get rid of a few a while back. In mine I carry my wallet, tampon case, tylenol, hand sanitizer, lotion, pens, a pacifier, a diaper, small ziplock bag of baby wipes, glasses case, a pocket knife, lip gloss, my anxiety meds, and whatever mail i have stashed in my purse to bring in the house and forgot about.

Hey, I am one of the bowling buddies that went through Joy’s purse. While Joy was bowling her turn, I dug in her purse. There was an accomplis next to me. She is only guilty by association. Joy is right she doesn’t carry much in her purse. Oh the MMs we ate them. I did offer Joy some but she said no. And of course me and the other guilty one were laughing so hard we were almost crying. It was just GREAT!!!!! Oh then we put the empty MM package back where I found it in her purse again.

There was another lady I worked with that left her purse in my car after I gave her a ride home. I called her and she said just to bring it to work the next day. So yeah…. I went through her purse. She is a like second mom to me, so I knew she would not get mad at me. She had purses inside of purses. So the next day at work she was digging through her purse I asked her what she was looking for. She said a pen, I told her to look inside her red bag that was in the purse she was digging in. She laughed and said why did you look in my purse last night. Yes I said and walked away. We still laugh at that to. So the moral of the puses is don’t leave it unattended around me, I just might look into it.

  15. Joy says:

I still laugh about that too Theresa. When they “offered” me my own M&M’s I said “what, did they fall on the floor?” They roared with laughter. The next day Theresa and I were IMing and she asked me about the M&M’s and I told her they were Trinity’s and she had put them in my purse over the weekend at my nephew’s wedding!! Then they felt bad and replaced them. AAwwww..it was funny.

Hmmm handbag – well… there would be a strip of assorted perscription drugs, a wallet with credit cards and license, passport, money, sweet n low (for those places who don’t have it), a hair brush, and some lipstick/lipgloss.

  17. amberfireinus says:

Oh and a solid silver cross pen….

In my purse I have my wallet, cell phone, keys, pen, mini planner, badge for work, pager, Chapstick, tampons, and my pick. I never leave home without my pick because my hair bands are wrapped around the end! I finally found a purse that I really like that will go through all season because my God it was a lot! I do have a smaller purse I use to go out with, but that’s it. My main purse and my fun purse!

  20. Jane says:

I don’t “love” purses like most women. I just get a new one when I need one. I keep a backpack in my truck that just stays there because often when I leave I’m in a hurry. I have a phone and walkie talkie, wallet, tampon, pick with a scrunchie, lip balm, hand lotion, hand wipes, pens, tablet, advil, band aides, gum (for the boy) animal crackers and fruit leathers.
